It seems like information and updates about the same friends keep appearing in my social news feed and there are others who I hear nothing about, even though they’ve been busy updating away. Why is this?

It might be some settings you have on social by mistake limiting the number of things you can see and know about via social updates. Or they might have chosen to hide this information not only from you, but the rest of facebook. I took off the option to where my news feed is broadcasted on social due to too many nosy people… =|
